Also want to shout out Nioh 2 for having absolutely bar none the best combat in any Soulslike I've ever played. Like, it's not even close. Bloodborne is probably still in the conversation just because it plays differently enough (mostly due to trick weapons, rally, quickstep and gun parry) and is much compact with incredible atmosphere and themes for a nice shot-in-the-arm type experience so it may appeal more to some folks in that way. Elden Ring is truly ridiculous in (amazingly) both scope and craftsmanship though and unless it completely shits the bed in the final stretch I wouldn't hesitate at all to call it an honest to god masterpiece and one of the best games ever made. --- Let the voice of love take you higher, With this gathering power, go beyond even time! |

That was definitely the hardest fight I've done in the game so far but I would 100% disagree with anyone saying that fight was somehow less fair or worse designed than the Maneaters or even the OG DS1 Gargoyles. Even with just a UGS and your choice of AoWs you can tear shit up all the way to the end of Altus Plateau at least. I guess if this is another last 10% of the game issue then I haven't seen that stuff yet but also... it feels like a pretty small problem then? lol Like yeah I'm sure Sorcerais mixing between Moonveil and sorceries will have an easier time but at that point you're also opening the door to STR/FTH or fucking Starscourge builds and those seem more than capable of wrecking face as well - this game feels like "choose your own broken" but I've also seen a lot of self loathing for chosen builds going around. I'm cleaning up the last bits of the Altus Plateau now and am unsure how much of the game I have left after this. I'll see if I can remember to offer thoughts after Insee what's left. That said, on summoning, I definitely feel like Spirit Ashes are supposed to be considered part of your kit and are part of the design for at least certain bosses, duos especially. | Xiahou Shake 03/08/22 2:34:17 PM #46 | Bosses feel pretty good to me if not a smidge easy overall (with a few exceptions) just due to both having so much experience with these games overall and there being so many different ways to crack this game wide open now. Overall I think it's a good thing that build diversity is so great and these are probably still balls hard if this is your first Souls game, I'd wager. I definitely agree that the overall boss design has changed a ton since DeS but mixing in stuff like roll catchers, combos, grabs and all the other unique stuff we see in this game makes bosses far more interesting to me personally. It's fun never knowing exactly what a new boss is going to bust out. It's never come close to feeling "unfair" to me personally when you get so much of your own nonsense to throw out - player characters have never been more powerful in this series so it makes perfect sense for bosses to answer in kind. --- Let the voice of love take you higher, With this gathering power, go beyond even time! |
